Wood UV Coatings

UV Wood Coatings

I wasn’t even aware that people still used wooden propellers, let alone there was a company still manufacturing them. I thought it was all fiberglass and fancy space age composites then Mike Hay of PPG Props contacted us with an interest in UV curable coatings for his wooden props.

We had already had great success in the guitar market with the Power-Shot and our various coatings, so why not with propellors? Once again a craftsman who was working in a very traditional market and media could see the benefits of moving into UV Curable Coatings to help with his process.

We had thought about SPDI making a custom machine silmiliar to what we had made for Patrick Industries, see next blog for info, but upon hearing Mike’s requirements we realized that the Power-Shot met all his needs in one handy package.

The other selling point was ‘we’re a one stop shop’. We supply the UV system, safety gear and always have coatings available that are specially formulated by Greenlight Coatings to work with our lights, no need to spend time shopping around and never really being sure if you are achieving ‘full cure’ with unmatched products.

So maybe it’s time to stop procrastinating and start the New Year off with a Power-Shot and coatings from Cure UV.

UV Sanitizing Furniture and Bed Vacuum

UV Sanitizing Furniture and Bed Vacuum

Have you taken notice of the amount of people who have already been sick this season? It’s a proven fact that during the winter months, when most of the respiratory viruses thrive the risk of contacting a contagious illness is heightened.

One way to keep your family and your house clean is through the use of UVC light. UV-C Light sanitizes micro-organisms and biological pollutants, including germs, dust mites, mold, bacteria, and flea eggs. Cure UV offers many solutions, such as the UV Sanitizing wand, perfect for use on bedding, closets, sofas, and chairs. This Ultraviolet light bulb allows wide coverage, eliminating up to 99.9% of contaminants.

Have you heard about the developing bed bug issue? CureUV.com has the UV-C Sanitizing Furniture and Bed Vac, a convenient and powerful hand held vacuum. This Bed Vac eliminates odors and kills germs, bed bugs, dust mite, and flea eggs on mattresses and bedding without damaging fabrics (30 times faster than any other sanitizer on the market).

Traveling this holiday?  Don’t forget to take this portable Ultra Violet wand with you. Great for public bathrooms, hotel rooms, bathrooms, remote controls, airplane seats, and headrests. Eliminate billions of germs, bacteria and viruses that other guests have left behind.

UV Power-Shot for Curing applications such as concrete

UV Power-Shot

As more and more manufacturers and contractors turn to Ultraviolet Technology for the obvious benefits, lower costs, times, and chemical emissions, it was only a matter of time until the concrete and stone industry followed suit.

Another great fit is our trusty UV Power-Shot.

Having myself worked in the granite business, I know how important it is to get in, do the job, and get out as quick and as cleanly as possible. Nobody wants their house or business looking like a building site and the downtime can be stressful and costly for both parties.

The fact that one person can carry the UV Power-Shot into a job site, cure or seal the counter, floor, whatever and get out in a matter of minutes makes it very desirable. We also carry the UV Curable Sealer and a full line of safety gear, which all ships from the same location, making us a one-stop-shop for all of your needs.

Currently at SPDI, we are developing a dedicated floor curing model based on the success of the the hand held device. This will feature a longer lamp and extended mounting arm, making even the largest flooring job a breeze. Check back in a couple of weeks and I’ll try and sneak up some pictures.

Along with GreenLight, we are developing and extending our ultraviolet coatings and sealer lines, which will be available on our cure-UV web store soon. For a more in-depth look at our coatings and to hear from people who know a lot more about them than me, check out our other blogs.

Next time, ‘the sky’s the limit’, the Power-Shot and propellers.

Let’s start with Guitars!

Curing Guitar Finish with UVPS-1100

Curing Guitar Finish with UVPS-1100

So, as promised, here is the first application for the UVPS-1100 we’re going to look at.  I must come clean, this is a little self serving, as not only was I one of the designers of the Power-Shot I am also an avid though somewhat rubbish guitarist.

There is a back story to how we got involved in the guitar market, and it didn’t start small. Gadow Guitars approached SPDI back in 2005 and asked us to design and build a UV Dryer for their guitars.  They are a moderate sized outfit and needed to speed up production and cut down on inventory, literally, hanging around in their workshop.  We came up with the Total-Cure Guitar Finishing UV System.  Five years later we have several of these machines around the world, two of which reside at PRS Paul Reed Smith. I will at a later date write at length about this system as I think it’s awesome!

What we learned from making this large unit for big guitar manufacturers, turning out tens to hundreds of units a week, was the little guy needed something too.   We already had the solution, the Power-Shot. We worked closely with our chemists and developed a full range of Fillers and Coatings specially for the guitar industry.

Even though UV Curing is not new technology bringing it to the guitar market is tougher than you may think.  These guitar builders and Luthiers are a fickle bunch.  Apparently building instruments isn’t the same as throwing together Scandinavian flat pack furniture, these guys are master craftsmen and use techniques that in some cases date back hundreds of years.

Jason Simpson at Simpson Guitars is one of the growing number of small manufacturers who is benefiting from the move to UV curing.  He has told me first hand that the reduction in curing times alone is invaluable especially when it comes to small repairs such as dents scratches etc.  Proving that in this case old world craftsmanship and ‘new’ technology can work together saving you time and money.

Now where did I put my plectrum.
